Due to the advanced age of the Quinta do Olival Velho vineyards, our wines are made with minimal winemaking intervention, letting nature and the terroir speak for themselves.

2020Trufa

  • The wineIn 2016, the first vinho da Quinta do Olival Velho was produced - O "Trufa".
    This vinho is produced with grapes from a unique parcel of vinha da property, the "Vinha do Olival".
  • Tasting NotesConcentrated and intense aroma. Full-bodied, with notes of wild fruits and "steva" (a local Portuguese resinous bush); in the mouth it has an impressive attack with intense flavors of wild fruits and a firm and very well integrated tannins. Very elegant, complex, fresh and persistent.
  • PairingGame, stews, aged meats and cheese.
  • Years2016, 2017 and 2019.

2021Trufa Negra

  • The WineIn 2017, a second wine was released - O "Trufa Negra", combining grapes from Quinta do Olival Velho with another one, meanwhile acquired by the company "Quinta do Olival Velho, Lda", located in the river Távora.
  • Tasting NotesConcentrated, guloso, fressh and very balanced.
  • Years2017, 2018 and 2019.

2017Trufa Garrafeira

  • The wineTrufa Garrafeira is a special edition of only 603 numbered Magnum bottles.
  • Tasting NotesSmooth tannins, mineral notes and a complex, persistent, very elegant and fresh finish.
  • PairingRed meat, aged meat and cheese dishes.

DouroTerroir

Quinta do Olival Velho has a privileged location on the left bank of the Douro River, in the Cima Corgo sub-region, at an altitude of around 350 metres and facing north.

Its geological origin is based on a great complexity and variety of schists, with poor soils and a large amount of stoniness on the surface.

Planting

Planting vineyards is only possible through human intervention, transforming the bedrock into arable rock, limited by water loss through erosion, but where the shale is able to recover the temperature during the night and promote a microclimate, at the level of the vines and roots, that is unique in the world.

Grape Varieities

The 3 hectares of old vineyards preserve around 30 varieties native to the region and come from vines that are around 70 years old, which we maintain to this day, with the aim of maintaining a heritage that allows us to create wines with a high level of identity.

Method

All of our plots are carefully tended in a traditional way, still working the soil with ploughs and horses. We only apply natural fertilization using digging, an option that aims to preserve the history and tradition of the Douro.

ExperiencesVisit us

The start of the reconstruction of the existing ruin on the farm to create a small rural hotel with six rooms is scheduled for soon, but in the meantime, we invite you to come and have a unique experience amidst the magic of the vineyards, the peace and silence at Quinta do Olival Velho.
